“La Cara”

By Kevin Shaw and Cole Decks

“This set was originally made for a photo emulation assignment given by @zachtheleon. We drew a ton of inspiration from photographer Lola Álvarez Bravo, especially her use of shadows in her Mexico-based street photography.” - Kevin Shaw (@sirkevinshaw) Director of Photography

What did we do?

We made an initial frame out of scrap wood from our workshop, and then added insulation foam that could be carved into the shape we wanted. After a layer of joint compound and some wall texture spray to create an aged effect, the wall was ready for paint. The natural ladder was sourced from some local trees a friend suppled that we hand scraped the bark off of to achieve a sun bleached look.

The “La Cara” project was inspired by this 1940’s photo by Louise Dalh-Wolf.
